»About
The Left Banke were a late 1960's band from New York with a unique sound. Critics labeled them "baroque-pop" due to the classical influences in their music.

Besides three songs that hit the Billboard charts, "Walk Away Renee," "Pretty Ballerina," and "Desiree," the group left behind a legacy of music that influenced notable musicians ranging from Leonard Bernstein to Alice Cooper.

Don't see your question answered here? Try asking at The Official Left Banke Fan Page.

Q: Can I use your pictures/mp3's/interviews/etc for my podcast/article/media/etc?

A: I don't mind people using anything from this site (within reason) but giving credit to leftbanke.nu (and anyone else who is credited with the item you are using) is the right thing to do. If you really are a fan, why wouldn't you want people to know about this site?

Q: What is the deal with the Left Banke Red Cap label CD's being sold online?

A: I think they are garbage and I do not recommend buying these poorly designed bootlegs that do not benefit the members of the Left Banke or Montage. You can get a legitimate copy of the Montage tracks from Sundazed. Strangers On A Train aka Voices Calling can be downloaded for free on this site. You can purchase a MP3 Album of There's Gonna Be A Storm at Amazon.com.

Q: Did Steven Tyler of Aerosmith sing background on "Walk Away Renee?"

A: No. Steven Tyler (known as Steven Tallarico at the time) was in a band called The Chain-Reaction. Tom Finn hired him to work on the Left Banke's second LP where he sang backup on "Dark Is The Bark" as well as other tracks.

Q: Where can I find a copy of Yvonne Vitale's "On This Moment?"

A: I don't have this, but have seen it offered as a bit torrent. Try searching for it on Google.

Q: Do you have the lyrics to....?

A: There are lyrics to some Left Banke songs Here and Here. You can also do a search online for Left Banke lyrics.

Q: Will there be a Leftbankeisms 3?

A: I am not the one who puts the official "Leftbankeisms" collections together, but I (along with the contributions of others) have put together a collection called Dress Rehearsal that contains some pre and post Left Banke related recordings.

Q: How do I contact Left Banke members?

A: All the former members work in the private sector now so I do not have contact info for them except for Tom Finn. You can reach him through The Official Left Banke Fan Page.

Q: Where can I buy Left Banke Vinyl LP's?

A: Try eBay, GEMM, or MusicStack.

Q: What did Renee look like and what ever happened to her?

A: Renee Fladen was a very attractive, tall blond who is now an opera singer and vocal teacher on the West Coast.

Q: Is there any truth to the story that Steve Martin-Caro asked Motown's Berry Gordy to have Levi Stubbs sing the 1968 cover of "Walk Away Renee" over Marvin Gaye?

A: According to "Walk Away Renee" co-writer Tony Sansone, the 4 Tops were already in the studio recording covers of recent hit songs when Motown made the inquiry about the song. There is nothing to suggest that this request ever took place, nor did Steve Martin-Caro ever own the publishing rights to "Walk Away Renee."

Harry Lookofsky with his partners Trio Music, along with Ally Music owned the publishing rights to "Walk Away Renee" at the time and those companies still own the publishing rights to this day.

Q: How did you do the 3D videos?

A: The videos are referred to as machinima. I used Sims 2 and other tools to make them. You can watch and download all my movies from Pew Man Fu Studios.

Q: How do I unzip files if I am using a Mac?

A: Use Stuff It.
